Free tool ยท CRA penalties & interest

If you haven’t filed yet, we’ll show you what waiting costs.

The CRA charges a late-filing penalty the day after the deadline, and interest compounds daily on top of it. The meter stops the day you file, so see your number and then let us stop it.

If you're expecting a refund, there's no late-filing penalty, but your money is sitting in Ottawa instead of your account, and benefits like the CCB and GST/HST credit can stop until you file.

Stop the meter this week.

Send us your slips today and the penalty stops growing the day we file. Most late returns are done within days, quoted upfront, no judgment. Half our late filers say the same thing afterwards: "I should have called you months ago."

Estimates only. First-time late filing: 5% of the balance plus 1% per full month, to a maximum of 12 months. If the CRA charged you a late-filing penalty in any of the previous three years and issued a demand to file, it can double to 10% plus 2% per month for up to 20 months. Interest is the CRA prescribed rate on overdue taxes, compounded daily, and the rate resets quarterly. Not tax advice, and your real numbers can differ.
